Oracle CC&B field integration for smart meter work

Last updated

PIEBENCH is built to integrate with Oracle Customer Care and Billing (CC&B). Connectorly can bring premises, service points and meters in from CC&B to create field jobs, and send approved meter installations back, through the web services your CC&B team exposes or a staging table. It is built to integrate, not Oracle-certified, and needs no middleware.

Where CC&B fits

Oracle CC&B is the billing and customer system at many utilities. It knows the account, the premise, the service point and the meter installed there, and it bills from that. Like most billing systems, it was never meant to be the tool a technician uses at the meter board.

The result is a familiar gap. Field crews record a meter exchange in one place, and the billing team keys it into CC&B days later from a spreadsheet. If one digit of the serial is wrong, the consumer's next bill is wrong too, and the complaint lands on the DISCOM.

What PIEBENCH exchanges with CC&B

DirectionTypical dataBecomes

PIEBENCH → CC&BApproved meter exchange: new meter serial, removed meter and final reading, initial reading, date, locationA meter exchange your CC&B team can post

Which records you exchange is up to your CC&B team. PIEBENCH needs an endpoint or a table with the agreed fields, not access to CC&B's internals.

How the connection works

CC&B installations commonly expose data through web services over HTTP. PIEBENCH's CC&B testing used REST services, which Connectorly calls directly with Basic authentication, a Bearer token or OAuth 2.0.

Connectorly does not connect straight to an Oracle database. If your team prefers to share data through a staging table rather than services, put it in PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server or SQLite, and Connectorly reads it directly.

The setup steps are the same as for any source:

  1. Connect and test against the service or staging table.
  2. Accept or change the AI-suggested field matches, for example CC&B's meter ID to PIEBENCH's meter serial.
  3. Add filters and a schedule.
  4. Choose which approved events go back to CC&B, such as meter installations.

Every run is logged, failed sync jobs retry up to five times, and each outbound delivery is tracked. Once the CC&B side is ready, the PIEBENCH side typically takes about 10 minutes. See how integrations work.

Built to integrate, not certified

PIEBENCH has been tested against Oracle CC&B-style systems. It is not Oracle-certified. Your CC&B team decides what is exposed and how inbound meter exchanges are posted, and PIEBENCH delivers approved, consistently mapped records to that point.

What changes for the billing team

  • No more re-keying. Meter serials are scanned in the field and reach CC&B without being typed again.
  • Only approved jobs. Installations are sent after a supervisor approves them, so billing doesn't post work that later gets rejected.
  • A trail for every change. Each delivery is logged against the field job, with its photos and GPS, which helps when a consumer disputes a bill.

Integrations are included in Pro ($499 a month) and Enterprise, and Enterprise adds custom integrations for unusual setups. See pricing.

Questions buyers ask

Can a field app integrate with Oracle CC&B?

Yes. PIEBENCH is built to integrate with Oracle CC&B. Connectorly reads premises, service points and meters through the web services your CC&B team exposes, or from a staging table, and sends approved meter exchanges back. No middleware is needed.

Is PIEBENCH Oracle-certified?

No. PIEBENCH has been tested against Oracle CC&B-style systems but is not Oracle-certified. It connects through standard interfaces (web services over HTTP or a staging database), and your CC&B team keeps control of what is exposed and posted.

Can Connectorly read an Oracle database directly?

Not today. Connectorly reads PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and SQLite. For CC&B, the usual routes are its web services, or a staging table in one of those databases that CC&B data is written to.

What data goes back to CC&B after an installation?

The approved meter exchange: the new meter serial, the removed meter with its final reading, the initial reading on the new meter, the date and the location. You choose exactly which fields are sent when you set up the mapping.

How long does a CC&B integration take?

About 10 minutes on the PIEBENCH side once the CC&B service or staging table exists. Agreeing on which fields to exchange with the billing team usually takes longer, so start that conversation early.

Do we need the integration before crews can start?

No. Crews can start with service points imported from a CSV export of CC&B. Add the live integration once the process is working, and switch to scheduled syncs from then on.
